Food Around the World
Food brings people together, and every country has its own special dishes. In Italy, pizza is made with a thin base, tomato sauce, and cheese. It is baked in a very hot oven and is usually eaten with the hands.
In Japan, sushi is prepared with rice, seaweed, and fresh fish. The rice is mixed with a little vinegar, and the fish is sliced very thinly. Sushi is served with soy sauce and a small amount of wasabi.
In Mexico, tacos are filled with meat, beans, vegetables, and spicy sauce. They are folded in a soft or crunchy shell and are often topped with fresh coriander and lime.
These dishes are loved all over the world. They are simple, but they are full of flavor and tradition.
How a Dish Is Made
Anna: That smells amazing! What are you making?
Ben: It's goulash — a traditional dish from my country. It's made with beef, onions, and lots of paprika.
Anna: How is it cooked?
Ben: Well, first the onions are fried in oil. Then the meat is added and cooked slowly for two hours. A lot of paprika is mixed in, and some potatoes are added near the end.
Anna: It sounds delicious. How is it served?
Ben: It's usually served with bread or dumplings. In winter, it's eaten almost every week!
Anna: I can't wait to try it.
