What’s inside this module

Four stages: meet the words, build other forms from them, pair them with the words they normally go with, then test yourself.

Flashcards

Fifty cards, each with the word, its part of speech, a precise C1 definition, an example sentence, and up to three typical collocations on the back — social anxiety, chronic insomnia, on the road to recovery. Rate each card “I knew it” or “Still learning” and your ratings are saved automatically.

Word formation

Eight gap sentences that ask for a different form of a word you have just met: addiction becomes addictive, diagnosis becomes diagnose, immune becomes immunity, nutrition becomes nutritious, surgery becomes surgeon.

Collocations & phrases

Ten pairs in the form a doctor or a news report would use: kick an addiction, outgrow an allergy, a telltale symptom, declare a pandemic, undergo surgery, make a full recovery, write a prescription, see a specialist.

12-question quiz

A mix of multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank, with an explanation after every answer, right or wrong. Your best score is saved automatically.

How to get the most from it

Five habits that make C1 vocabulary stick, not just pass a quiz.

Diagnosis, prognosis, prescription

A diagnosis names the problem, a prognosis predicts how it will develop, and a prescription is the written instruction for the medicine. Three words that turn up in the same conversation doing three completely separate jobs.

Learn the scale words together

An outbreak is local, an epidemic is wider, a pandemic crosses countries. All three appear constantly in news writing, and the wrong one changes the size of what you just described.

Mental and physical health share the grammar

You suffer from insomnia, anxiety or an infection; you undergo surgery or therapy; you make a recovery from any of them. Learn the verb patterns once and they cover both halves of the deck.

Come back for the re-deal

After you finish the flashcard deck, it automatically rebuilds itself from just the words marked “still learning.” A short second pass on the hard ones is worth more than repeating the whole deck.

Use one this week

Describe one appointment you have actually had, in four sentences, using this deck — symptom, appointment, prescription, recovery. A real visit gives these words a shape that a definition on its own cannot.
