The route

Base Camp, lesson by lesson

Work through them in order — each one is a little bigger than the last. Open any lesson to see what you will learn and the speaking task it ends on. You can start where you like, but the order is the point.

1 Why Speaking Feels Scary Calm your nerves, then record your first thirty seconds Start here

Learn why nerves happen — and why they actually help. A short box‑breathing exercise settles you, then you record a thirty‑second introduction and rate how nervous you felt, so you have a number to watch fall as the course goes on.

You will practice: feelings language and simple frames for talking about nerves.

2 Your Voice Is an Instrument Find your clearest speaking pace Free

Read the same four sentences at three different speeds and hear which one a listener can actually follow. You leave knowing your own steady pace, and how to break a long sentence into chunks instead of racing through it.

You will practice: pace and volume words, and chunking sentences.

Start Module 2 →
3 The Shape of a Talk Build a simple outline and say it aloud Free

Every clear talk has a beginning, a middle and an end. Use a small outline builder to shape a short talk with First, Next and Finally, then speak your outline aloud in forty‑five seconds.

You will practice: First / Next / Finally, and “Today I want to talk about…”.

Start Module 3 →
4 Phrases That Carry You Record a thirty-second opening using set phrases Free

Twenty ready‑made phrases that open a talk, move it along and close it cleanly. Pick three and record a thirty‑second opening — phrases you can lean on when the word you wanted will not come.

You will practice: a twenty‑phrase starter pack for opening, moving on and closing.

Start Module 4 →
5 Stand Like a Speaker A mirror mission — no microphone needed Free

What your hands, feet and eyes are doing while you speak. Run a short mission in front of a mirror and check yourself against a simple observation list. No recording for this one — just you and a mirror.

You will practice: body‑language vocabulary and gentle imperatives.

Start Module 5 →
6 Tell Me a Story Record a sixty-second true story Free

A short personal story is the easiest way to hold a room. Learn the time words that carry a story from start to finish, then record sixty seconds about something that really happened to you.

You will practice: past narrative and time linkers (one day, suddenly, in the end).

Start Module 6 →
7 Handling Questions Kindly Draw a question and answer it aloud Free

A question is not an attack. Learn the phrases that buy you a moment and check what is really being asked, then draw question cards and answer them out loud against a gentle timer.

You will practice: buying time (“Good question…”) and clarifying (“Do you mean…?”).

Start Module 7 →
8 Rehearse Like a Pro A timed full run-through Free

How to practice so it actually sticks — and why reading your notes again is the weakest way to do it. Plan your rehearsals, learn the difference between notes and a script, then record a full timed run‑through.

You will practice: practice‑planning language, and notes versus script.

Start Module 8 →
Final Mission: My First Talk Plan, rehearse and record a 2‑3 minute talk Certificate

Everything comes together. Plan a two‑to‑three‑minute talk, rehearse it, record it, and score yourself against the Base Camp rubric. Finish it and print your Base Camp certificate — proof you went from nervous to standing up and speaking.

You will practice: everything from Modules 1 to 8, in one real talk.
