Unit 5: Describing a Meal

Warm-Up (5 minutes): Sharing Homework Findings

Activity: Partner Sharing

  • Instructions: “Show your partner the picture or description you brought for homework and explain what you wrote. Talk about the dish, its ingredients, and why it’s special. Be ready to answer questions your partner may have.”

Introduction to Writing About Food (10 minutes): How to Describe a Meal

Activity: Group Discussion and Examples

  • Instructions: “When describing a meal, think about these key points:
    1. Ingredients: What is it made of?*
    2. Taste and texture: How does it taste or feel when you eat it? Is it spicy, sweet, creamy, crunchy?*
    3. Preparation: How is it cooked or prepared?*
    4. Personal connection: Why do you like it? Does it remind you of something special?”*

Example:
“One of my favorite meals is homemade pizza. It is made with dough, tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings like mushrooms and olives. The crust is crispy, and the cheese melts in your mouth. My family always makes it together on weekends, which makes it special for me.”

Writing Assignment (30 minutes): Describing Your Favorite Meal

Activity: Independent Writing

  • Instructions:
“Write about your favorite meal. Use the following structure to guide your writing:

    2. One suggestion for improvement: What could make it better? (e.g., ‘Maybe you could add more detail about how it is prepared.’)”

    3. Sentence structure and clarity.
