Unit 1: B1 Writing Assignment "Your Ideal Neighbor"

Objective: Students will practice their writing skills by describing their ideal neighbor based on the characteristics of the neighbors described in the reading task.

Instructions:

Imagine you are moving to a new neighborhood and have the opportunity to choose your ideal neighbor. Write a descriptive paragraph outlining the qualities you would like your neighbor to have based on the characteristics of Maria, John, and Emily from the reading task.

  1. Introduction: Begin by introducing the idea of moving to a new neighborhood and the importance of having a good neighbor.
  2. Qualities: Describe the qualities you would like your neighbor to have. Consider their profession, hobbies, personality traits, and how they interact with others in the neighborhood.
  3. Interactions: Explain how you envision interacting with your ideal neighbor. Will you chat over the fence, help each other with tasks, or share common interests?
  4. Conclusion: Summarize why these qualities are important to you and how they would contribute to a positive living environment in your new neighborhood.

Example:

Introduction: Moving to a new neighborhood can be both exciting and daunting. One of the key factors in making a new place feel like home is having a good neighbor.

Qualities: My ideal neighbor would have a mix of qualities from Maria, John, and Emily. Like Maria, I would appreciate someone who is friendly and approachable. It would be great to have a neighbor who enjoys gardening and takes pride in maintaining their home. From John, I would like someone who is handy and willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Having a neighbor like Emily, who loves animals, would be a bonus. I would enjoy chatting with someone who shares my love for pets and cares about the well-being of animals in the neighborhood.

Interactions: I imagine my ideal neighbor and I would have friendly interactions, whether it’s exchanging gardening tips, borrowing tools for DIY projects, or going for walks with our pets. It would be nice to have someone nearby who I could rely on for assistance and who I could also offer help to in return.

Conclusion: Having an ideal neighbor who embodies the qualities of Maria, John, and Emily would not only make me feel welcomed in the neighborhood but also create a sense of community and belonging. Their friendliness, helpfulness, and shared interests would contribute to a positive and enjoyable living environment for everyone in the neighborhood.
