Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to engage in formal debates and deliver presentations, use formal language and professional terminology appropriately, comprehend business emails, academic journals, and professional correspondence, listen to business meetings, interviews, and expert presentations, and craft formal reports, business correspondence, and academic essays.

  2. Audio recordings of business meetings, interviews, and expert presentations
  3. Writing materials for students
  4. Visual aids or images related to formal and professional contexts

Duration: 90 minutes

 

Warm-Up (10 minutes): Start the lesson by discussing the importance of formal and professional writing in various contexts, such as business, academia, and professional correspondence. Ask students to share any experiences they have had with formal writing.

Speaking Practice (20 minutes):

  1. Divide the class into pairs or small groups and assign them debate topics related to formal and professional issues.
  2. Encourage students to prepare arguments and counterarguments, and then engage in formal debates.
  3. After the debates, have students provide feedback to each other on their speaking skills and argumentation techniques.

Vocabulary Enrichment (15 minutes):

  1. Introduce formal language and professional terminology to the students, providing examples and explanations of their usage.
