Modes of Transportation

Airplane

  • Definition: A powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces.
  • Example Sentence: “I traveled from New York to Paris by airplane.”

Train

  • Definition: A series of connected vehicles that run on tracks and are used as a mode of transportation.
  • Example Sentence: “We took a train from London to Edinburgh.”

Bullet Train

  • Definition: A high-speed train that operates at very high speeds, often found in Japan.
  • Example Sentence: “The bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto is incredibly fast and efficient.”

Scooter

  • Definition: A two-wheeled vehicle that is powered by a small engine.
  • Example Sentence: “We rented a scooter to explore the small island.”

Car

  • Definition: A road vehicle, typically with four wheels, powered by an internal combustion engine or electric motor.
  • Example Sentence: “We drove a car along the scenic coastal route.”

Bus

  • Definition: A large motor vehicle carrying passengers by road, typically one serving the public on a fixed route.
  • Example Sentence: “We took the bus to get around the city.”

Bicycle

  • Definition: A vehicle composed of two wheels held in a frame one behind the other, propelled by pedals and steered with handlebars.
  • Example Sentence: “Riding a bicycle through the park was a relaxing way to spend the afternoon.”

Ferry

  • Definition: A boat or ship for conveying passengers and goods, especially over a relatively short distance and as a regular service.
  • Example Sentence: “We took a ferry across the river to reach the island.”

Subway

  • Definition: An underground electric railroad.
  • Example Sentence: “The subway in New York City is very convenient for getting around quickly.”

Tram

  • Definition: A passenger vehicle powered by electricity conveyed by overhead cables, and running on rails laid in a public road.
  • Example Sentence: “We took the tram to see different parts of the city.”

Places to Visit

Beach

  • Definition: A pebbly or sandy shore, especially by the ocean between high- and low-water marks.
  • Example Sentence: “We spent the day relaxing on the beach.”

Resort

  • Definition: A place that is frequented for holidays or recreation or for a particular purpose.
  • Example Sentence: “The resort had beautiful pools and excellent service.”

Temple

  • Definition: A building devoted to the worship of a god or gods.
  • Example Sentence: “We visited an ancient temple that was over a thousand years old.”

Museum

  • Definition: A building where objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited.
  • Example Sentence: “The museum had an impressive collection of modern art.”

Café

  • Definition: A small restaurant selling light meals and drinks.
  • Example Sentence: “We enjoyed coffee and pastries at a charming café.”

River

  • Definition: A large natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the sea, a lake, or another river.
  • Example Sentence: “The river flows through the heart of the city.”

Amusement Park

  • Definition: A large outdoor area with fairground rides, shows, refreshments, games of chance or skill, and other entertainments.
  • Example Sentence: “We had a great time riding roller coasters at the amusement park.”

Tower

  • Definition: A tall, narrow building, either freestanding or forming part of a building such as a church or castle.
  • Example Sentence: “The view from the top of the tower was breathtaking.”

City Center

  • Definition: The commercial, cultural, and often historical and political heart of a city.
  • Example Sentence: “We did some shopping and sightseeing in the city center.”

Market

  • Definition: A regular gathering of people for the purchase and sale of provisions, livestock, and other goods.
  • Example Sentence: “The market was full of fresh produce and handmade crafts.”
